For the first quarter of 2026, Ebenezer Ridges Geriatric Care Center was recognized as the third largest nursing home in Dakota County, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 114 available beds—19 more than the county average for the period—and served an average of 106.2 residents per day.

Ebenezer Ridges Geriatric Care Center received a 4 out of 5 overall rating from CMS, surpassing the average rating of 3.2 given to Minnesota’s nursing homes.

Southview Acres Healthcare Center held the top spot as the largest nursing home in Dakota County with 210 beds, while Apple Valley Village Health Care Center ranked second with 162 beds.

Ebenezer Ridges Geriatric Care Center also reported no fines or penalties as of the close of the first quarter of 2026.

Dakota County, Minnesota, counted seven non-profit nursing homes in total at that time.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the number of older adults nationwide continues to rise, while younger population groups are shrinking. Between 2020 and 2024, the population of Americans 65 and older grew by 13%, while the number of people under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, the nation’s older adult population increased dramatically, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study estimates that around half of these older adults, approximately 28 million people, will need long-term services and supports. The study also suggests that more than one-third could ultimately need care in nursing homes.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
