BURNSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: District 191 Schools Receive Exemplar Status Awards For Work Creating Strong School Communities

Hs 06

Burnsville High School issued the following announcement on June 10

Ten schools in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 have been recognized for achieving Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Sustaining Exemplar status through the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).

Gideon Pond, Harriet Bishop, Hidden Valley, Marion W. Savage, Sioux Trail, Sky Oaks and William Byrne elementary schools, Eagle Ridge and Nicollet Middle Schools and Burnsville Alternative High School have been identified as exemplar schools that have completed PBIS implementation and are continuing to achieve positive student outcomes.

“We are so proud of the work that our administrators, PBIS coaches and all staff in our buildings have done to support PBIS,” said Kelly Czapar, District 191 Behavior Analyst. “Their work, passion, and dedication surrounding ISD 191 students is incredible!

This year, District 191 schools will be celebrated in a virtual ceremony to honor their PBIS Sustainability efforts. The ceremony will be held on June 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

During this time there will be a short presentation, recorded highlights of exemplar schools and districts, and speakers from MDE and the PBIS State Leadership Team. Regional Coordinators from the metro area will be speaking on behalf of the great work these schools have done to contribute to student success.

PBIS is an approach where schools use evidence-based practices to enhance academic and social outcomes for all students. It helps establish clear expectations, common language and practices, and systems of positive feedback to help develop a strong school community.

To be identified as a Sustaining Exemplar School, schools need to have completed training and demonstrate continued implementation of school-wide PBIS with fidelity.
