Four programs in Dakota County have received national attention as they improve the quality of people's lives and make the community a healthier place.

The programs, Lyft, smoke-free housing, Thomas Lake restoration and the volunteer program, are beneficial programs for the community.

The county's restoration of the Thomas Lake program helps to make much-needed improvements to the area. The smoke-free housing program is a program that pushes to make public housing smoke-free. The Lyft program helps people with limitations get to work and back home again. They also take seniors to doctor's appointments and to get their medications.

Officials said that the volunteer program, along with the other three, have received the 2020 achievement award from the National Association of Counties.

Staff members of these programs were recognized on Aug. 4 by the Dakota County Board of Commissioners.

“This is just a snapshot of the amazing work county staff do each and every day to collaborate and find ways to be an efficient, effective and responsive government for our residents," Board Chair Mike Slavik said in a press release.
