Help is on the way for some Dakota County businesses as many of them have sustained financial difficulties because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Dakota County Board of Commissioners recently directed an additional $3 million of federal CARES Act funding toward its Small Business Relief Grant program, according to the county's website.
The allocation is in addition to the $10 million the board pledged to the businesses in Dakota County that employ up to 50 employees.
During the application period, more than 1,300 businesses applied and close to 400 have been approved for the one-time grant of up to $10,000.
A number of businesses are in the process of applying and getting their eligibility verified. The funding should help businesses cover payroll, rent, mortgage payments, utility bills and other operational expenses since March 1 of this year.
Dakota County will also review applications from local businesses that applied for a similar grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development but did not receive it.
