A new residential organics drop-off site opens Aug. 15 at the Rosemount Public Works Facility.
Dakota County residents can bring organics like food scraps to the site, located at 14455 Brazil Ave. in Rosemount, for free. All registered participants receive free compostable bags to use at home and helpful tips. To enroll, visit the Organics Drop Off page, call 952-891-7557 or email organics@co.dakota.mn.us.

Unlike backyard composting, all food scraps, including meat, bones and dairy products are accepted. The Mulch Store, a commercial compost facility, processes the materials at higher temperatures to kill bacteria and turns them into a nutrient-rich soil product known as compost.
Since opening the first drop-off site in 2016, more than 9,000 Dakota County households have registered for the program. The program has kept more than 30,000 pounds of food scraps out of the landfill each week.
