WASHINGTON, DC – On May 17, Rep. Craig’s bipartisan legislation to streamline broadband expansion passed the Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee with support from Democrats and Republicans. The legislation is now set for a full committee vote.
The Expediting Federal Broadband Deployment Reviews Act would direct the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to create a new system for prioritizing broadband deployment requests on federal land.
Rep. Craig’s bipartisan legislation would help ensure the U.S. Department of Interior and U.S. Forest Service are working together effectively to expand broadband as quickly as possible.
There are more than 3.4 million acres of federal land in Minnesota.
“We’ve got to use every tool in our toolbox to expand broadband access in Minnesota and nationwide, and I’ll keep pushing with Rep. Duncan to get our bipartisan bill across the finish line,” said Rep. Craig.
Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) is the lead Republican sponsor.
