Jeff Witte, state representative for Minnesota’s District 57B, began his second term in the Minnesota House of Representatives on January 14. Witte expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving his district and emphasized his commitment to representing the concerns and priorities of local residents.
Witte announced that he will serve as GOP Vice Chair on the Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee and as a member of the Taxes Committee during the 2025 legislative session. He outlined his legislative priorities, which include addressing fraud in state government, repealing certain taxes to improve affordability, supporting law enforcement and first responders, reducing mandates on schools, protecting taxpayer dollars, and advocating for infrastructure reforms.
"My priorities this session will focus on tackling fraud in state government, making Minnesota more affordable by repealing harmful taxes, and ensuring public safety by supporting law enforcement and first responders. I will work to reduce unnecessary mandates on schools, protect taxpayer dollars, and push for infrastructure reforms that remove bureaucratic obstacles while maintaining high standards. My legislative priorities align directly with the work I’m doing in Committee and will help make Minnesota a safer, more affordable, and prosperous place for all," Witte stated.
Witte also highlighted a historic event at the Capitol: "On Tuesday, history was made when Representative Lisa Demuth—District 13A was elected as the first GOP female Speaker of the House and the first Speaker of color in Minnesota's history. It’s been an absolute privilege to work closely with Lisa over the past few years. Her hard work, dedication, and leadership are unmatched, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this role. I look forward to working with her in this new capacity as we work toward a better future for all Minnesotans."
In addition to legislative activities, Witte attended the 71st annual Youth in Government session at the Capitol where students from grades 8-12 participated in civic engagement exercises. He commended Ellie Aars from Lakeville for serving as Chief Justice during this event: "I’d like to extend special congratulations to Ellie Aars, a senior from Lakeville, who served as the Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court during this session. Her leadership is a shining example of what’s possible when young people engage in our democratic process."
Witte also took part in school visits at Eastview Elementary and Cherryview Elementary in Lakeville as "Principal for the Day." He met with school leaders to discuss current challenges facing educators and students.
"As always, I am deeply grateful for the trust and support you have placed in me to represent our district in the Minnesota House. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have. I am here to serve you, and I look forward to continuing this journey together," Witte said.
