Congressmen Brett Guthrie and Morgan Griffith have announced a hearing focused on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the American healthcare system. The hearing, titled "Examining Opportunities to Advance American Health Care through the Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies," is scheduled for September 3, 2025, at 10:15 AM ET. It will take place at the Rayburn House Office Building and will be open to both the public and press. A livestream will also be available on energycommerce.house.gov.

Chairmen Guthrie and Griffith emphasized that AI technologies offer significant opportunities to enhance healthcare delivery, improve provider-patient relationships, reduce administrative burdens for clinicians, and empower patients within the healthcare system. They said that this hearing continues their committee's efforts to explore real-world applications of AI in driving innovation and improving lives.

Andrew Toy, CEO of Clover Health, is set to testify during the hearing. Clover Health operates as a physician-enablement AI technology company serving over 100,000 seniors through Medicare Advantage plans. Toy will discuss how AI can democratize access to advanced care by integrating fragmented health data from various sources to provide actionable insights for physicians. He highlighted that AI allows independent and rural providers to deliver data-driven care comparable to larger health systems.

Toy will also address how AI personalizes care based on individual genetics, lifestyle, and environment rather than population-level standards. He noted improvements such as earlier diagnosis of diabetes and chronic kidney disease and increased preventive care screenings for colorectal and breast cancer.

Furthermore, Toy pointed out that AI reduces inefficiencies by automating administrative tasks for providers while lowering costs for patients through early intervention strategies. He advocates for responsible AI use that empowers clinicians without replacing them and calls for standardized data interoperability to enable comprehensive patient histories.

Clover Health's model aims to bridge gaps in care for underserved seniors by using AI ethically to enhance accessibility, personalization, and efficiency in healthcare services.
