Angie Craig, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Minnesota’s 2nd district since 2019, has posted a series of statements on her social media accounts criticizing Republican actions during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
On October 4, 2025, Craig commented on communication from the Department of Veterans Affairs to veterans, stating: "America’s veterans received this blatantly political and misleading email from the VA. It failed to mention that Republicans have cut millions of dollars this year in food assistance and health care for those who served. Unlike my Republican colleagues, I’ll fight for https://t.co/t8RKWiDFKU".
The following day, she addressed congressional pay during the shutdown: "If Republicans want to keep the government shut down so they can avoid addressing the urgent health care crisis — they shouldn’t get paid for it with your tax dollars. My No Pay for Disarray Act would suspend all pay for Members of Congress during the shutdown." This proposal aims to suspend salaries for members of Congress while government operations remain halted.
On October 6, 2025, Craig further criticized Republican leadership regarding ongoing issues resulting from the shutdown: "It’s been 6 days since Republicans shut down the federal government. In that time: health insurance premiums have skyrocketed, federal workers are hurting and Republicans have done nothing to end the health care crisis they created. It’s time for them to come to the negotiating".
Craig has represented Minnesota's 2nd District in Congress since replacing Jason Lewis in 2019 and is known for advocating on behalf of veterans and federal workers. Born in West Helena, Arkansas in 1972 and now residing in Prior Lake, Craig holds a BA from the University of Memphis.
