The Minnesota Vikings announced on Mar. 30 that they intend to exercise the team’s fifth-year option on wide receiver Jordan Addison, according to Executive Vice President of Football Operations Rob Brzezinski at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting.
The decision gives the Vikings an opportunity to extend Addison’s rookie contract, which is standard practice for first-round picks. The deadline for exercising this option is May 2026 and would apply to the 2027 season.
“He’s a really important player for us, an impact player,” Brzezinski said. “We’re definitely exercising the option. For sure. The deadline for that is after the draft.”
Addison was selected as the 23rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and has since recorded 175 receptions for 2,396 yards and 22 touchdowns with a receiver rating of 93.2. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, especially when teammate Justin Jefferson missed time due to injury.
In his first NFL season, Addison caught 70 passes for 911 yards and scored ten touchdowns despite Minnesota starting four different quarterbacks during that campaign. His performance earned him NFL Offensive Rookie of Month honors in October and a spot on PFWA’s All-Rookie Team.
Addison became only the fifth rookie since 2000—and thirteenth in league history—to record at least 900 receiving yards and ten touchdowns in his debut year. His statistics rank among franchise leaders: second in receptions (behind Jefferson), third in receiving yards (behind Jefferson and Randy Moss), and tied with Sammy White for second-most touchdowns by a Vikings rookie behind Moss.
Following his debut season, Addison posted another strong year with 63 catches for 875 yards and nine scores, then finished with forty-two catches for six hundred ten yards and three touchdowns during the next campaign—including notable plays such as a game-winning catch against Cleveland in London.
Previously, Minnesota used its fifth-year option on Christian Darrisaw before agreeing to an extended deal with him.
