State Rep. and Assistant Majority Leader Jon Koznick saluted protesters while condemning rioters amid the local fallout from the death of George Floyd, according to Minnesota Legislature on June 5.
While Koznick was empathetic with protesters “exercising their amendment rights,” he made it clear he doesn’t support violent protests, based on his statement in the Minnesota Legislature.
“Protesters initially were communicating their desire for change and justice for both Mr. Floyd and our society at large. It is clear, however, that unscrupulous individuals decided to take advantage of the tense situation and began to loot and riot," he said.
As for his own district, he expressed his frustration over residents’ properties being targeted during the looting, some areas which have been deemed too dangerous for them to return to.
He urged Gov. Tim Walz to employ the National Guard to help assist with violent rioters.
