Rep. Tony Jurgens recently congratulated Charlie Johnson for being named 2020 Washington County Farm Family of the Year, in a Facebook post.
"Congratulations to Charlie Johnson and his son Chad of Whistling Well Farm in Denmark Township for being named 2020 Washington County Farm Family of the Year by the University of Minnesota Extension," Jurgens wrote.
Jurgens presented the award to Johnson.
"I was happy to present Charlie and his dog Emmy with a House Resolution acknowledging the honor today," Jurgens wrote. "Charlie and his wife Carol founded Whistling Well Farm in 1972 and began growing apple trees in 1980. They have over 16,000 trees including [University] of Minnesota developed varieties: First Kiss, Sweet Tango and Honeycrisp. They are located two miles south of Afton Alps on St. Croix Trail at 90th street."
Additionally, the farming family also owns and operates a Dekalb/Asgrow/Mycogen/Stine seed dealership and a family trucking company.
