City of Coates issued the following announcement on Oct. 1
The Dakota County Historical Society will host a virtual presentation series called Discovering Minnesota Baseball. The second presentation in this series will be on Town Ball Parks of Minnesota, presented by Todd Mueller on Thursday, Oct. 29. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The presentation is offered to the public free of charge due in part to funding provided by the Union Pacific Foundation's COVID Relief Grant. To register, please visit the Historical Society website.
Registration is required to receive the meeting room invite and passcode. While the event is offered free of charge, donations are encouraged to offset the financial hardships COVID-19 is having on historic sites while many remain closed.
Border to border, Minnesota has more than 300 town ball (amateur) baseball teams, more than any other state in the country. Town Ball Parks of Minnesota takes the reader on a tour of the state's most revered ballparks, ranging from a multi-million dollar complex in the Twin Cities to a rural field at the end of a dirt road — arguably the most remote ballpark in the state. This presentation will explore some Mueller's favorite ballparks as he recounts his journey from visiting each park to the writing of his book.
Mueller is a St. Paul native who, as a youngster, wore a Minnesota Twins uniform with block lettering ironed on by his mother. His number seven was a tribute to his favorite Twin, centerfielder Lenny Green. Mueller's career was in communications and marketing, most recently as a marketing executive at a top 20 Minnesota company. He resides in a suburb of St. Paul. This is Mueller's first book, which had 1,200 copies purchased by the Minnesota Twins to give to their season ticket holders.
