Democratic incumbent Ruth Richardson retained her seat as State Rep. for House District 52B, fending off competition from Republican Cynthia Lonnquist.
Richardson took to social media to express her gratitude over to voters for the confidence shown in her.
“We did it! We couldn’t have done this without your support. Thank you for entrusting me with a second term to represent our district,” she posted on Facebook.
Lonnquist conceded and wished Richardson well.
“Hello family, friends & supporters! Early Tuesday morning I sent my opponent a note, saying "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" - and I wished her all the best,”
She added that she thought she had won the election when initial results started trickling in but was disappointed at the end.
“Some races are nail-biters; mine was a roller coaster. All evening I was running ahead 60%-40%; and MN SOS Website finally said 100% of precincts reporting. I thought I had won,” she said.
“After that, thousands more votes came in - and in the end my opponent won 55%; me 45%. Thank you all for your support - I've been receiving beautiful notes such as "God has a different plan for you"; "MINNESOTA lost", etc. This IS the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it,” read her post in part.
