Thompson Lake reopened after wastewater spill

A5

Thompson Lake has reopened to the public.

The lake had been closed since May 16 due to a West St. Paul sanitary sewer valve failure that released 70,000 gallons of sewage into Thompson Lake. The lake is contained within Thompson County Park – part of the Dakota County Parks system.

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services began testing water samples May 17 for E. coli. Tests performed May 23-24 confirmed the lake has returned to safe levels for recreational activity, such as fishing.

We appreciate the public's understanding during this unexpected closure and apologize for any inconvenience.

For more information about the wastewater discharge incident, contact the City of West St. Paul at 651-552-4130.
