WASHINGTON, DC – In honor of National Police Week, U.S. Representative Angie Craig is pushing to pass bipartisan legislation to help recruit more police officers and support their collective bargaining rights.

Rep. Craig cosponsored the bipartisan Invest to Protect Act which would invest in small and mid-sized police departments to help support community policing efforts.

She also cosponsored the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act to allow public safety employees and officers to form a labor union and collectively bargain for hours, wages and terms and conditions of employment.

“In order to keep Minnesotans safe, we need to ensure our local police departments have the resources they need and that each officer is able to bargain for the pay and benefits they deserve,” said Rep. Craig. “I’m grateful for all the law enforcement professionals who put on their badge in service of their community each day, and I’ll keep working with Democrats and Republicans to get these bills passed.”

Both bills are endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police and the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association.
