98% of American truck drivers say they regularly experience difficulty finding safe parking
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Angie Craig’s bipartisan bill to improve truck parking safety passed through the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee with support from Republicans and Democrats. The bill now heads to the House Floor for a vote.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 98% of truck drivers are unable to find safe parking while on the road and are forced to park in unsafe areas. The Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act would address those challenges by providing federal funding to create thousands of safe parking spots for trucks and make necessary improvements to existing truck parking areas.
“Truck drivers do the hard work to keep our supply chains moving and it’s our responsibility to protect their safety and wellbeing. I’m pleased to see my bipartisan bill heading to the House Floor for a vote – and will be working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get this passed,” said Rep. Craig.Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL) is the lead Republican sponsor and U.S. Senators Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) have introduced companion legislation in the Senate.
