WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Angie Craig is pushing for better mental health resources in schools.
Rep. Craig is working to pass the bipartisan Improving Mental Health and Wellness in Schools Act, to make it easier for licensed mental health professionals and registered dietitians to collaborate on school mental health and wellness policies.
Last year, 29% of Minnesota students reported mental health problems lasting more than six months – an increase from 23% in 2019 and 18% in 2016.
“As a mom and grandmother, there is nothing more important to me than our children’s wellbeing, and I’ve heard from parents across the South Metro with the same priorities. That’s why I’m working with members of both parties to ensure children living with mental health conditions and eating disorders can get the support they need at school,” said Rep. Craig.
The legislation is endorsed by the American Psychological Association, the National Alliance for Eating Disorders, the National Association of School Psychologists and the Eating Disorders Coalition.
