WASHINGTON, DC – On June 13, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig introduced a bill to expand access to naloxone, a medicine used to reverse opioid overdoses and prevent overdose deaths.
The Naloxone Affordability Act would help the federal government protect and expand naloxone access and increase transparency surrounding the cost of this life-saving medicine.
“The fentanyl crisis is costing American lives every day. We’ve got to invest in the tools we need to prevent additional suffering and work to expand addiction treatment resources to the communities that need them most. I’m proud to partner with Reps. Kuster and Blunt Rochester on this important bill and I’ll keep pushing to expand naloxone access and awareness,” said Rep. Craig.
Rep. Craig has been a leader in the fight to combat the fentanyl crisis, expand resources for law enforcement and improve addiction support in Congress.
Earlier this year, she successfully urged the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to fully approve the over-the-counter distribution of Narcan, a commonly-used form of naloxone.
Additionally, Rep. Craig is a cosponsor of the bipartisan Save Americans from the Fentanyl Emergency Act, which would permanently reclassify all fentanyl-related analogs as a Schedule I drug to ensure law enforcement can continue to prosecute the sale of these substances.
