Angie Craig voices concerns over NIMH funding cuts and mental health for officers

In a series of tweets, U.S. Congress representative Angie Craig addressed concerns about funding for mental health and the importance of mental health resources for law enforcement officers. Representing Minnesota's 2nd district since 2019, Craig has been vocal about mental health issues and their impact on her community.

On April 18, 2025, Angie Craig tweeted about her recent efforts to oppose the current administration's decision to reduce funding for the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), stating: "Last month, I stood with MN mental health professionals, researchers and those who benefit from behavioral health care to fight this Admin’s funding cuts to NIMH."

In a follow-up tweet posted on the same day, she emphasized the setbacks these cuts represent for Minnesota's progress in mental health and addiction research. She stated, "We’ve been making great progress in MN on mental health and addiction research and now we are literally moving backwards."

On April 19, 2025, Craig shifted her focus towards the mental health of law enforcement officers. She highlighted the challenges faced by these officers daily and her advocacy for their access to necessary mental health resources. She tweeted: "Every day our law enforcement officers respond to difficult - and often tragic - situations. That work takes a toll. I’ve been fighting to ensure our officers have access to the mental health resources they need - because when our first responders are supported, our communities."

Angie Craig, who was born in West Helena, Arkansas, and currently resides in Prior Lake, Minnesota, holds a BA from the University of Memphis, obtained in 1994.
