State Representative Jon Koznick has publicly supported the suspension of Minnesota's Northstar rail service, describing it as a benefit for both taxpayers and commuters. In a series of statements posted to his official X account, Koznick highlighted efforts to redirect resources toward transportation options more aligned with residents' needs.

On August 6, 2025, Koznick wrote, "Both taxpayers and commuters will be better served by the announced suspension of Northstar rail. We have worked persistently to better allocate resources to modes and routes MN’s want and actually use."

Later that day, he reiterated his position in an official release: "RELEASE: Chair Jon Koznick Applauds Decision to Suspend Northstar Rail by 2026: A Win for Taxpayers and Commuters".

The Northstar commuter rail line has faced criticism over its ridership numbers and operating costs since its inception. Discussions about suspending or restructuring the service have been ongoing among state legislators and transportation officials as they evaluate how best to serve Minnesota residents’ commuting needs. The move aligns with recent debates in Minnesota regarding public transit funding priorities.

Koznick serves as chair within the state legislature's transportation committees, where he has advocated for reallocating funds from underused services like Northstar toward other infrastructure projects deemed more effective by lawmakers.
