City of Apple Valley issued the following announcement on Sept. 4.
Dakota County wants to know how to make Highway 42 even better. The County is requesting the public to share their experiences walking, biking, driving, and riding public transit in the corridor.
Dakota County is working with the cities of Burnsville, Apple Valley and Rosemount to prepare a long-term vision for County Highway 42. The highway is designated a principal arterial, which means it is managed to emphasize efficient and safe travel over long distances. The highway also has dozens of intersections to provide controlled access to residential and commercial areas.
A similar plan for the roadway was last completed in 1999.
The study is looking at 15 miles of County Highway 42, from the county’s west border in Burnsville to Highway 52 in Rosemount.
Public input and data collected in the past has identified concerns, including congestion, safety, and accommodations for pedestrians, bicyclists, and bus transit.
The study will address traffic growth, land uses and future improvements. The goals include finding cost-effective ways to improve mobility and safety for vehicles and pedestrians and to improve connections across County Highway 42.
