The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) recently announced that, according to Job Vacancy Survey results, Minnesota employers report that job vacancies are down 23.7% for the second quarter of 2020 compared to 2019.
Th survey was conducted during the spring when pandemic-related job losses were peaking and is the first survey since 2016 that reports that there are less job vacancies than there are unemployed workers to fill them.
The survey reports the highest number of job seekers per vacancy reported since 2012 with 2.4 unemployed persons for every job vacancy statewide.
“Many Minnesotans are out of work right now and facing a challenging labor market, but at the same time, there are still employers who are hiring for good-paying jobs,” said DEED Commissioner Steve Grove. “At DEED, we are partnering with businesses across the state to highlight those jobs in a campaign called #GoodJobsNow. We want job seekers to know there is opportunity out there, despite the pandemic-fueled downturns.”
