Dakota County teachers and home school parents of fourth-grade students are invited to register for a chance to attend the 26th-annual Metro Children's Water Festival Wednesday, Sept. 27 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

The free, outdoor festival teaches, motivates and challenges fourth-graders to understand, conserve and protect water resources. Registration is open through March 15 at www.metrocwf.org.

The festival will feature the Science Museum of Minnesota's show WATER! plus water games and arcade. As many as 47 other learning stations include hands-on activities for students to learn about water's physical and chemical properties, how water moves on the land's surface and underground, where water is found, and how it is connected. Activities emphasize how students impact water quality and how it impacts them.

The Metro Children's Water Festival is a valuable science enrichment program that helps teachers meet state education standards. The virtual festival, available on the festival website, helps teachers expand the learning experience whether or not they are selected for the in-person festival.

Schools selected by Dakota County to participate will be notified by early May. All remaining schools will be put on a waiting list.
